Embrace the change
After completing a BA in Labour Relations & Human Resources Management at the University of Valladolid, Spain, I worked as an Implementation Project Manager for 10 years in international business. However, dance and music led me to change the course of my life, and I began my training for a second career.
Biodanza took me to a MSc in Dance Movement Therapy at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Getting to know myself in movement was the beginning of a new transformative experience. My fascination for the body-mind connection encouraged me to complete a BSc. in Psychology with specialisation in Health Psychology (Open University of Catalonia). In my practice I saw an increasing demand for working with groups, something I have always enjoyed doing. So, I looked into how to improve my groupwork skills. After five years of training in psychodynamic group psychotherapy, I obtained a Professional Certificate in Modern Group Leadership at the Center for Group Studies, New York.
My passion for teaching has led me to work in various roles with trainees in Counselling and Psychotherapy degrees, in both Spain and the UK. I also facilitate professional training for mental health practitioners.
I currently combine different teaching roles in higher education with my Private Practice as a registered Psychotherapist in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I have worked as part of multidisciplinary teams in a variety of settings, from acute wards and primary care in national healthcare systems in Spain and Switzerland, to community projects and private practice in Spain and the UK.
My clinical experience includes individual and groupwork in Child, Youth and adult psychiatry as well as with older people (geriatric psychiatry). I have particular experience with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), eating disorders, dementia, depression, substance abuse, trauma, and the so-called central sensitization syndromes (fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, etc.).
The majority of my clients do not have diagnosed mental health condition, but they come to see me to improve their general well-being. Some are seeking help for anxiety or depression. Some have body issues or identity concerns. Some are going through a difficult time due to a loss or a breakup. Some are looking for healthier and more satisfying relationships, with others and with themselves. Some are having a personal crisis or are going through life transitions: having a change in career, moving location, experiencing parental issues, training as counsellors/psychotherapists, etc. All of them have in common the need to change something to get the most out of life.
In therapy, I can support you to 1) identify attitudes and behaviours that block progress, 2) understand your emotions, 3) enhance your relationships, 4) strength your capacity to handle life´s difficulties, 5) improve your body-mind relationship, 5) enhance your relationships, and 6) live a more coherent life.
